Meikleour Fishing
Fourteen named pools can offer fly fishing and spinning from both bank and boat, as well as harling when conditions allow. The beat welcomes expert and novice alike and can provide tuition if required along with introduction to fishing days.

Beginner Isabella playing her first salmon on Meikleour beat.
Meikleour Beat has a lot of spawning gravel and they start to get a build up of fish starting in August. Looking at their 5 yr average, they hope to catch approx 100 salmon if the conditions are right until the season closes in mid October.
Calum McRoberts says "Sometimes this seems a tall order, but double figure days are a distinct possibility - we had 9 on our last day last season up to 25lbs. Not surprisingly these rods have booked again for this season!"
The Meikleour Arms has increased it's portfolio of self catering cottages with a three-bedroom/two-bathroom cottage, which must be one of the sweetest and picturesque 19th century stone cottages in the area! Roselea cottage is perfect for anglers fishing in and around the Ballathie area and is only a short walk away from the Meikleour Arms - read more.

New Site Update
The ongoing work on our complete site redevelopment continues to make great progress with a timeline now added to the "sneak peak" button on the new site page which gives you a feel for when individual river sites will move over onto the new platform.

New Beat Maps showing position of pools with picture and text explanations.
The challenge we face is finding good quality photos of pools, huts, ghillies etc for our 700 beats which remains a priority. Many thanks to those who have helped us already.
For those of you who have some good photos that you can send to us, then please do as the more we have, the better the site pages will be for rivers and individual beats. As I said last month, please don't be shy, send in your photos or give Tom a call in the office as we may be able to offer you some fishing vouchers in return for you helping us!

Latest Fishing Reports
This month there is some excellent availability on the site for salmon, brown trout and rainbow trout fishing for the UK and Ireland.
Dee:
A week of 101 Salmon & Grilse and 33 Sea Trout is no bad effort at all at this time of year considering the river conditions of continuing low water and a couple of hot sunny days, particularly Thursday but that did boost the attendance at Ballater Highland Games. The majority of fish were caught in the bottom end of the river with 5 grilse at Ardoe and many more lost - read more.
Eden:
There are certainly fish running the river right this month. The Eden has remained fairly high for most of last week, as fish moved quickly upriver in the cool peat-stained waters. At Warwick Hall Estate, David Bamford enjoyed a day to remember, by landing six salmon. David's best fish weighed 18lb - read more.

Happy angler at Gordon Castle River Spey.
Findhorn:
After heavy rain falling over the river Findhorn catchment the previous week-end, river levels were at a very good fishing height for the start of the week and continued to fall away slowly each day, with another small rise later on Wednesday afternoon - read more.

Tony Quinn about to return this 7lb fly caught salmon at Little Isle IAC beat River Ness.
Hebrides:
After heavy rain falling over the islands, poor fishing conditions meant that many fisheries were virtually unfished for the first few days of the week, but things improved by Thursday and catches were good in a fresh south-westerly wind with 74 salmon for the week and 32 sea trout. - read more.

5 year old Freya Campbell with her 1st salmon from the River Spean.
Spey:
Gordon Castle finished the week with almost forty landed. Ian Tennant tells me it was a mixture of fresh fish and old stagers. Orton finished just short of double figures, whilst Delfur had a twenty fish week. Rothes, Mike tells me the pools are stuffed with fish and it just needs a wee spate to turn them on. They finished with ten for the week - read more.

Phil Adams with a Spey beauty, one of three caught on his own tied mini sunray this week.
Tay:
Salmon fishing on the Tay in Perthshire is in early August with changeable summer conditions for fishing in warm weather and reasonable water levels from rain at times plus catches are steady after a slow start to the season with a summer run now in progress. There is a good selection of fishing available this month and into September on the River Tay. Don't forget the season closes on Saturday 14th October, which is only 8 weeks away - find fishing.

Jude Maxwell with a fish off Junction beat, Tweed
Tweed:
A rather damp weekend gave us a rising river on Monday with a steady rise over the day washing off beats below the Junction by mid-afternoon. As has been the norm this season fishing has been quite productive on the back of these small rises and a decent week of catches were made. Some good sized Salmon and Sea Trout were caught over the week with a catch of 259 Salmon and 63 Sea Trout reported with the best fish for the week 21lb Salmon from Milne Graden and 10lb Sea Trout from West Learmouth - read more.
Tyne:
Good runs of salmon and sea trout for the time of year with the EA recording 7,581 at Riding Mill during June and 10,995 for July making a total of 19,585 fish so far. Anglers have enjoyed some good sport at times particularly when there has been some fresh water mixed in with the regular releases from Kielder - read more.

Fish off Tyne Waters Meet, caught by Ashley Temple.
Yorkshire:
The better lifts in water have just started to take effect on the river and salmon are now being seen and for some anglers they are catching and losing an odd fish. Fishing pressure until now has been very very light, but I would expect this to pick up as we have cooler and wetter conditions. Swinton and Abbey beat will suit current conditions and Bolton likes the water a little higher - read more.
