New CEO at Fishing Republic after ‘significant’ sales deterioration

Fishing Republic, the fast-growing UK-based retail chain, has made major changes at boardroom level, including the appointment of a new acting CEO, following a major decline in sales in October. The company has reported a ‘significant deterioration’ in trading which saw its like-for-like store sales decline 13% in October, in sharp contrast to a 16% rise for the nine months up to the end of September. This week the company announced that Steve Gross has been replaced as CEO by Chris Griffin, who will take on the role in an acting capacity. Gross will remain as Executive Director, but Zoe Gross, the Operations Director, and Paul Hagerty, the IT Director, have stepped down from the Board.

UK’s Tackle & Guns Show could be set for a return in 2018
The Tackle & Guns Show, once an annual fixture on the UK trade calendar, could be making a return. Nick Marlow, the owner of Tackle & Guns magazine, the publication that spawned the show, is considering resurrecting the event next year. Marlow, who has experience in show production as well as media, purchased Tackle & Guns magazine from previous owner David Hall Publishing (DHP), which has since been sold off. DHP had already said that it would not be running the show in 2017. It also closed or sold some of its publications and lost the editors of its two trade titles...

Bass Fishing Hall of Fame moves into new permanent home

The Bass Fishing Hall of Fame (BFHOF) celebrated its grand opening in its new home in the Wonders of Wildlife Museum and Aquarium with the induction of five new members last week. The BFHOF exhibit, a gift from Johnny Morris, the Springfield, Missouri museum’s owner and the founder of Bass Pro Shops, features more than 60 members including Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston, Roland Martin and former US President George H. W. Bush.
