We have entered the month of September where the sun warms your back instead of beating on your head, and the garden is awash with orange flowers. Our thoughts are turning towards rivers closing from mid September into October and the last chance to fish them in 2018 for salmon and trout - find fishing.

A better week with ninety-eight fish reported, which was not bad considering the water height - read more.
Tilbouries hooked into fourteen and landed six of them. All the action was on a fast stripped Sunray.
Little Blackhall and Inchmarlo had six. Ewan Maclachlan had three of those. John Bell celebrated his first visit to the Dee with two. Dess picked up seven including a lump of a fish for former Board Chairman, Ian Scott. It measured 38 inches and was estimated around 20lb. Find Dee Fishing.

A lot of fish holding up below Carlisle at Beaumont and Grinsdale with the low water conditions, both salmon and grilse. The lower beats have had some good sport the first week of the month, while above Carlisle the water level remains a little too low for fish to travel - read more.

Fish The Tweed
50th salmon caught on Pedwell, Tweed.
Tweed catches the last couple of weeks have remained steady, with the bulk of fish caught below Coldstream which is expected in the current conditions. Last week a total of 183 salmon and 8 sea trout, with fish caught as far up as Ashiestiel. The bulk of the fish were caught earlier in the week. Warmer weather returned and the river dropped back to nearly summer level by the end of the week - read more.
Ladykirk and Tillmouth continue to be the best performing beats with 36 and 35 fish, Milne Graden sandwiched between these 2 beats managed 10. Sprouston picked away and finished the week with 15 - find salmon beats.
Fish returned on Junction beat.

Report From Norway
Morten Harangen fly fishes around the globe with his brother Terje. This year he's fished his home water in Norway, along with trips to the Dee, Spey and Tweed for salmon and the Test for trout.
Morten caught the first Dee Spring fish of 2018.
What a strange year it has been. After the coldest and most snowy winter I can remember, we got the summer we hoped for – and more. Many salmon rivers have been extremely low and warm, some were even closed for a period of time, in order to protect the fish. Fish The Tay
Most beats on the lower river have good sport last week. Almondmouth, Lower Redgorton and Waulkmill beats reported fish which confirms a decent run of fish has entered the river in recent weeks - read more.
Rain and cooler temperatures improved sport for anglers last week with 151 fish, the largest of 22lbs at Meikleour and Upper Islamouth - find Tay fishing.

Ness Ladies Day
Sam Mutters with a fresh run Ness salmon.
21 ladies travelled to the River Ness from as far as Kendal and County Durham for Inverness Angling Club's ladies charity day. The event organised by Sue Munro, Anne Woodcock and IAC members, raised over £700 for the Highland Hospice.
The event introduced 10 complete beginners to fishing, one of whom was the Inverness Provost, Helen Carmichael, who thoroughly enjoyed herself. During the day the ladies saw fish, hooked and lost fish, and finally a fish was successfully landed by Sam Mutters.
148 salmon have been caught on Inverness Angling club water during August - find fishing.
