Fish The Dee

We begin the week with a minor miracle - one of the gauges, Mar Lodge, is showing a rise. It's not the spate I have been talking to my counsellor about, but I'll take it. I see there is some more rain forecast towards the end of the week and into next week, but we have been here before more than once this year.
We finished with eighty-nine for the week, which was a reasonable tally, all things considered. If we had a foot or more water extra, I believe we would have more than doubled that - read more.
Invery and Tilquhillie hosted two Ladies Days last week, which were well attended and attracted participants from as far away as Fort William. The ladies also raised over £500 for local charity, North East Sensory Services. Tara Speirs and Faye McAskill both had fish - read more.
The season on the Dee closes for beats above Aboyne Bridge on the 30th September. For beats below Aboyne Bridge it's the 15th October. If you would like to fish the river before it closes, visit latest availability or give the office a call on 01573 470612.

Fish The Tweed
Fish Caught on Pedwell Beat.
The catches during the last couple of weeks have remained steady, with the bulk of fish still being caught below Coldstream, as would be anticipated in the current conditions - read more.
42 were reported caught above Kelso, 50 fish were reported between Kelso and Coldstream and 114 reported below Coldstream. Ladykirk and Tillmouth continue to be the best performing beats with 34 and 60 this week, Milne Graden sandwiched between these 2 beats managed 5 and lost a few. Birgham Dub picked away and finished the week with 15 - find fishing.

Friday 14th September sees the end of spinning for the season, as the river moves into the fly only period 15th September until 30th November.
This week looks potentially like we might get the same sport for many beats on the river. The rain looks like it might 'freshen the river up'. Rain that came in during Monday night has raised levels on Tweed, Teviot and Ettrick. Temperatures have started to drop at night, which should start to cool the river down. Beats above Boleside will no doubt have a few fish creeping into them and with hardly anyone fishing, they could well be worth a cast. More rain is expected on Thursday. - find fishing.

News In Brief
A young man from the USA caught his first salmon on Fishponds River Tay.
River levels on the Findhorn remained very low early on in the week and fishing conditions were once again testing to say the least! However, we finally started to see more unsettled weather moving in by Thursday evening and producing some heavy bursts of rain over the River Findhorn catchment. We may well start to see many more fish running over the next few days once the water has cleared and settled - read more.
Grimersta, Hebrides, recorded 94 salmon/grilse for the month, 88 of which were returned. The heaviest salmon was a 9lb hen fish - read more.
South Uist Estate, Hebrides, have had a good sea trout season and are well up on last years total with over 400 recorded to date. The heaviest fish was an 8lb-8oz - read more.
Rainfall over the weekend on the Galloway system resulted in some good water. Catches, mostly of grilse, were reported on the Cree with the Newton Stewart Angling Association Water and Galloway Estates doing best. In low water Thursday and Friday, five grilse were among catches from the tidal areas of the Cree (Machermore) and Bladnoch (Kirwaugh) and deeper holding waters up river (Linloskin pool and Galloway Estates on the Cree) - find fishing.

River Spey. Gordon Castle, Ian Tennant reported twenty-five for the week, a mixture of salmon and grilse, mostly older fish. Delfur were once again into double figures - read more.

Fish The Tay
Ann Emsens playing a good salmon on the fly on Pitlochrie beat yesterday.
Salmon were landed last week in favourable conditions with improving numbers after the change in conditions in recent weeks. The numbers were slightly disappointing after some good weeks in a difficult season with around 80 salmon recorded, making it another consistent week signalling a reasonable summer run and a few more grilse caught maybe down to the lower river levels. The improving conditions meant that some of the resident fish have become more active also and they make up a good proportion of the catch - read more.

Fish the Nith
Tom Carter had a drive over to the Nith on Saturday the 8th September. The air had that "Autumn feel", the cloud was low and rain fell from Dumfries to Sanqhuar.
He met up with Andy Edgar, the river keeper for Dalswinton and Blackwood. Andy mentioned that the season so far had been tough due to the lack of water. However, during Summer even with high temperatures, the seatrout arrived and some good sized fish as well, including many in the smaller class.
The last few weeks catches have improved, but with few rods out, this does not give a fair reflection on what has been seen in and around Aulgirth. Rods fishing Blackwood beat last week caught five salmon up to 17lb during three days fishing.
Hopefully rain and cooler conditions expected later this week will improve prospects.
