''The good angler must bring a large measure of hope and patience'' Izaak Walton March has come and gone in a blink and it seems to be that time does pass quickly when we are having fun. April has arrived with a cold spell after the glorious summer-like days at the end of March when Ireland saw temperatures of 14-16 Oc. All around us the signs of warmer weather are evident. The daffodils are dying back and making way for the carpets of Wild Garlic which grows in abundance in the Blackwater Valley. The Blackthorn flower is in Bloom and I have spotted my first Blue Bells. The birds are busy singing songs and building nests and the clocks have sprung forward. I love these days on the river with the wonderful smells and the hope of fresh Salmon in the river. With each passing day we know that the chance of catching fish improves however we need to remember when fishing for Spring Salmon Izaak Walton's wise words of fishing with a large measure of hope and patience.

We have had a lot of high water for much of March on the Blackwater yet the river came to a lovely height in the last week of March and we started to catch fish.

Denis and young Tadgh - a father and son team went fishing on the 31st March to Kilmurry. They have been fishing together since Tadgh could walk, and have fished all around the country especially in the West of Ireland and with us here on the Blackwater. They are a very talented team when it comes to fishing and also fly-tying and hold many memories and stories over the years. Tadgh is busy working for his exams at the minute, but took a well earned break to go fishing with his father last Sunday. By 12 noon Denis had landed a beautiful fresh 10lb Salmon and a short while later Tadgh also caught a wonderful fish. This is truly Spring fishing at its best and I am so happy that they were rewarded for their efforts. A day out on the water that none of them will forget.

In March I flew 12,000 km to the other end of the world and had a wonderful time with my hosted group, We caught many large Sea Trout and Brown Trout in Patagonia and I look forward to going back again next March - more to follow on the page below.

This evening I fly to Germany with my daughter Anna to join friends - that have become like an extended family - to help with the EWF Fly Fishing show near Munich which takes place this coming weekend. I am delighted to be running the Ladies Programme here each year and I have a full programme each day of the show for all interested ladies. Anna will be busy helping with the Children's programme and then travels to Vienna to work with a friend of mine to improve her German language skills.

I return to Ireland on the 13th April and I will be answering emails each day and continuing to take bookings for fishing and teaching on the Blackwater for this season. If you wish to fish on the Blackwater in my absence please either contact me by email or phone Noel 00353 (0) 85 7220923 who will be there to greet you on arrival to the fishery.

We wish you many happy days on the water this season and hope to see you soon.

6-7 April 2019 Germany

http://www.erlebniswelt-fliegenfischen.de/index.php/en/ewf-eng/ladies-programme

It is with great pleasure that I am invited back to this wonderful show in Germany (near Munich) each year which takes place on the 6-7th April.
This is a Fly Fishing Show and out of all the shows that I attend each year, it is the only one that specialises in Fly Fishing and Fly Tying.
This show has a wonderful atmosphere and is run by a wonderful team of true enthusiasts who only want the best for our sport.
It is my pleasure to continue to run the Ladies events at the show and this is my 6th year working with these fantastic women who are improving their casting or taking up fly fishing for the first time.

This year will be a very busy year for the Ladies programme as I will be running 3 teaching courses during each day. This is a chance for any lady of any ability to learn or improve.
I have a one hour course for beginners, a one hour course for improvers and one hour for any lady who would like to learn or improve their double handed casting skills.

I will also have a casting slot on the pool each day and talking about trying to cast without effort, thinking about the common casting faults and their corrections and talking about how to use the lines of today to keep us fishing into our older years.
We of course will also have our fun casting competition for all non professional lady casters.

Come and see us at the show, we look forward to seeing you.

Patagonia March 2020.
http://solidadventures.com/rio-gallegos-argentina-las-buitreras/

I am just back from a successful trip that I was hosting to Patagonia. We had a wonderful time and all of the guests at the lodge and in my group caught fish. The biggest fish was around 17lbs and was caught by Steve from the USA. Steve was surprised when this big fish took, at the speed and power and he couldn't believe that he managed to successfully land it with the help of Valentine (one of the Guides at Las Butreras). Considering that Steve had only fly fished a handful of times before arriving at Las buitreras this was a truly great experience and I was so happy for him to have had this success. We mostly catch Sea Trout but this is a photo of one of my biggest brown trout which was taken during a flood.

This is truly a remarkable place with the stunning sunsets, wildness and large, hard fighting fish. I will be returning for two weeks next March and my original hosted week is almost full 21st-28th March.
Therefore I have taken a second week from 14th March - 21st March and if you would like further details on this special place then please contact me and I would be happy to send you all the details and talk to you on the phone about this experience.

Best wishes

Glenda
