A dry and cool (with snow) start to the month, with a persistent easterly wind keeping activity on the slow side. There have been a few salmon caught of late as far up as the middle river with a couple of fish in the high teens. Water levels are steadily dropping to around 6" above summer height and very clear. Water temperature 8oC.
10th, the grannom hatches are slow to get going as are the olives, when the wind direction and air temperature change we will see a big difference. 12 and 15lb above Carlisle today.
13th, reports of two fish 12 pounds above Carlisle.
15th, Still that strong bitter east wind suppressing activity. Water temperature 10oC.
17th, two fish upstream of Carlisle 9 and 12lbs.
18th, Alan Sephton 15 pounds above Carlisle.
20th, Brian Warrington 14 pounds on the fly, below Carlisle.
The brown trout fishing really starting to pick up with the slightly warmer air temperatures, big grannom hatches, brook dun and good surface activity. Water temperature 12.5oC
26th, Matt Forsyth 10 pound fish lower Eden. A few sea trout starting to arrive, fish up to two pounds on the lower river taking both nymphs and dries. Water temperature 13.5, water level is at summer height. Still the wind from the east!
27th, Brian Warrington 15 pound lower river.
28th, slight rise in water levels.
29th, good water with a few fish about!
