Prospects & General Comments:
Best Day & Best Catch for One Angler on same Day!
There have been few floods in May & the second half of the month has seen the river settle down nicely. The river is currently at 0.25m on the Balluduff gauge. Information from Upriver
Whilst we no longer have the river height information from Millstreet & Kanturk, we now have access to river height & temperature figures by the hour from Killavullen. These are graphed daily on the Fishing Report page. Best Day of the Season (7 fish) & Best Catch for One Rod (5) in a day - May 31 Mick Kennedy caught 5 fish to 9 lb. on the upper river - 3 on fly,
& 1 each on spinner & prawn. 4 were released alive. There were 2 other fish on fly also on the upper river
- both very fresh fish, one of 7.6lb. & another 4½lb. released. We had a superb purple patch for the 6 days to May 31st. Sixteen salmon & grilse to 10lb. were caught for only 18 rod days. Nine were caught on fly. Only 6 were grilse under 5lb. It started on the 26th. when Kieran McClements from Belfast caught his First Ever Salmon with a 4lb. grilse. The 27th. was what was at the time the Second Best Day of the Season with three fish to 7.8lb caught. Catch totals to date: February - 5, March - 4, April - 8 & May 40.
The Total for the Season to the end of May is 57. Fly has been the most successful method for May & the season. Prospects We have had excellent fishing in the last week even although the water is at summer level.
It looks as if we may get a fair amount of rain tomorrow night which should liven the fishing up even more. Availability

Good Causes
A few very worthwhile causes have been brought to my attention - asking me to bring them to your notice and for you to give them your support.

Northern Ireland
No to Salmon nets in Irish waters!
Sent to me by Vice-Chairman Mark Tierney
DCAL are the government body who issue the licenses for drift nets and commercial salmon fishing off the coast of the north east of Ireland.
These nets, some up to 1.5 miles long, are impacting massively on the numbers of salmon that will successfully enter our river systems to spawn.
We are opposed to such methods of salmon fishing and seek to see an end to it.
We are calling on anglers and conservation groups to join this page to show your disgust at government bodies that issue licences
for such slaughter in times when the Atlantic Salmon are supposed to be protected.
