Fly Fishing in the English Lake District

Beautiful Location

The lake District is a combination of lakes, tarns and rivers set amongst some of England’s most picturesque mountains and valleys. This is, perhaps, the most beautiful corner of England.

The South Lakes are only two and half hours drive from Manchester, with it’s international airport.

Abundance of Waters to Fish

Anglers coming to the Lake District have a wealth of quality game fishing waters within easy reach of almost every town.

There is a multitude of lakes, tarns, rivers and stillwaters with enormous potential for the game angler- most of these waters are underfished compared to your local waters. There is excellent sport in magnificent surroundings from wild brown trout to waters stocked with rainbows. Fishing from boat or shore –for the energetic (walker) angler the fell tarns with their breathtaking scenery. Some of the rivers contain salmon, sea trout and grayling. The estuaries and coastline provide opportunities to fish for bass and mullet. There is also excellent coarse and sea angling.

For the Non-Angler

There are wonderful opportunities to explore the beautiful Lake District and sightseeing Tours can be arranged for non-fishing members of a group. Other Outdoor Activities also available.

Game Angling Guide

Patrick Arnold is your Game Angling Guide ensuring that you fish your chosen water with an experienced angler, as local knowledge is essential and fishing tactics change as the weather changes. He will offer practical advice and if required, instruction on methods, tactics and where to fish are located. Catching fish can never be guaranteed, but the wise angler would do well to include a good guide and ghillie to enhance his/her fishing experience. Patrick will arrange everything that you require.
As Environment Agency Rod Licences are required by law every angler must be in possession of a valid Rod Licence – this can be obtained for you.
Fly Rods and ancillary equipment are available at a modest hire charge for each session. Locally tied flies are available, advice can be given on purchase of all equipment.
When boat fishing this will normally be traditional Loch style, Dapping is sometimes an option. On some waters boats for fly fishing are fitted with motors/electric motors; on other waters boats are for rowing only. Patrick is responsible for handling the boat for clients.
