COARSE ANGLING NEWS UPDATE TO JUNE 16th, 2010 GREAT BREAM FISHING REPORTED ON THE REMOTE SHORE SWIMS ON LOUGH DERG AT KILLALOE Coarse fishing has been mixed, mainly due to the very bright warm weather and dropping water levels. Angling guests of Kevin Lyons did manage to get a few fish on pre-baited swims in the Strokestown lakes, early morning sessions. There has been some very good Tench and Roach fishing on select venues on the Shannon in the Banagher area. Mike Murray reports the Shannon as almost deserted over the past couple of weeks at Portumna. With Rodgers Island still closed to vehicles nobody is fishing it at present. Who said the Bream were gone from the Shannon, not so! There was superb Bream fishing on the the remote island swims on Derg near Killaloe last week. GOOD PIKE FISHING REPORTED DESPITE THE SUNNY WEATHER AND SHRINKING WATER LEVELS
The Pike fishing in the upper Shannon area has been very good, Pike to over 20lbs have been showing over the past few weeks and let's hope it continues. Angling guests of Kevin Lyons had plenty of action, they fished two venues and managed 113 Pike to 19lbs in six day's fishing, using lures. On Saturday 5th of June Boyle and District anglers fished the Martin Michell Perpetual Memorial Cup Pike Competition, in beautiful sunny conditions on Lough Key. While the day was not really suitable for angling, all the 26 anglers that took part enjoyed the day relaxing in the sunshine. At Shannonbridge four anglers from England contacted local Gillie Aidan Kelly to bring them pike fishing on the 11th and 13th June, they had some good fishing, Dermot Killeen reports. Last Sunday saw the first of the downriver Pike competitions held by Athlone Anglers Association. First up was for the Poyntonia Cup , which attracted a great turn out. See their schedule of up-coming summer Pike competitions. The GAME ANGLING NEWS UPDATE TO JUNE 26th, 2010 BEST FISHING ON SHEELIN AND OWEL LATE IN THE EVENING Day time fishing has been poor on most of the midland lakes, particularly since the weekend. The best results were had by anglers fishing late in the evening into dusk on Lough Sheelin and Owel, with some good fishing reported. Anglers are reporting trout activity on Ennell mainly late in the evening but fish are proving elusive and difficult to catch. Olives and buzzers are worth trying late evening. A north east wind hampered trout angling on Lough O'Flynn. Lough O'Flynn Anglers held a competition on the lake on Sunday in quite good angling conditions, the results feature in our full report. Trout are feeding on Perch fry as we write on O'Flynn and of late Lough Owel. Anglers should try fishing with dabblers and perch fry imitations this week. Lough Acalla was lively over the bank holiday weekend, and there were good fly hatches evident.
