New National Angling & Fisheries Organisation Approved in Principle

Written By: Carmel Jorgensen
On Date: 6/5/2004

The Angling Unity Group members approve in principle the formation of a new organisation to represent angling and fisheries interests in England and Wales. The recommendation will now be considered by the Angling Unity Group member organisations.
The new organisation would encompass the activities currently undertaken by the Moran Committee, the National Angling Alliance and the Joint Angling Governing Bodies Group. This development aims to strengthen the role each organisation has been fulfilling.

The proposed activities of the new organisation are to include represent and lobby on freshwater and marine fisheries issues, and promote coordinated thinking within Government, public bodies, and other relevant interests about fisheries from an ecological perspective.

Jim Glasspool, who has chaired the meetings of the Angling Unity Group comments:

"The Group has made tremendous progress and reached agreement on the form of the new organisation. There is a determination to make the new organisation work and achieve a better unified representation of all angling and fisheries interests at a national level. It will not in any way duplicate all the efforts of the individual organisations, but will provide an organisation and forum for discussing those issues which can best be addressed by acting together."

Members of the Angling organisations involved will be discussing the proposal with their members, and the Unity Group will meet again on 15th July to consider the comments from the member organisations and to decide on the setting up of the new organisation.
