HELSBURY PARK BOASTS BEST SALMON FISHING IN THE SOUTH WEST

Written By: Jon Gardner
On Date: 2/6/2004

Visitors to Cornwall's Helsbury Park luxury farmhouse accommodation now have an added incentive to book their holiday or short break at Helsbury. The owners are offering fishing permits on the River Camel in partnership with Bodmin Anglers' Association.
Leza Wilson, director of Helsbury Park, explains: "The salmon fishing on the River Camel is some of the best in the country and more salmon were caught in the Camel last year than in any other river in the whole of the South West. As a stretch of the river passes through the Helsbury estate we thought it made sense to offer the fishing as an attraction to guests. We'd like to thank Bodmin Anglers' Association for their co-operation in making this possible."

Helsbury Park guests can now fish the entire 13 miles of Camel waters falling under the jurisdiction of Bodmin Anglers' Association, including a one mile stretch passing through Helsbury's grounds. The salmon season runs from 1 May - 15 December, which is one of the latest salmon seasons in the UK; only three English rivers allow fishing so late in the year. Helsbury guests can also fish for sea trout from
1 May - 30 September.

Ray Burrows, honorary secretary of Bodmin Anglers' Association, said: "We want visitors to Helsbury to have the best time possible when visiting the North Cornwall area, and for anglers that means having access to the best fishing. If the fish aren't biting at Helsbury, guests are welcome to try their luck at any of our other designated fishing areas along the Camel from Bodmin Moor to Pol Brock."

In addition to the inclusive fishing rights on the River Camel that come with a stay at Helsbury Park, guests can also sample other local fishing delights including the River Fowey. Local information and additional permits are available from Roger Lashbrook's tackle shop in Bodmin, and the 'Bait Bunker' tackle shop at Wadebridge.

Fishing is by no means the only attraction at Helsbury Park. The accommodation nestles in the relaxing, secluded North Cornwall countryside and the breathtaking views are some of the finest in the land. Guests enjoy private access to more than 100 acres of parkland and woodland. The farmhouse and barns have been restored and converted to the highest standards and both barns have 5 stars from the English Tourist Board. Part of the farmhouse dates back to the 10th century (not the plumbing, you'll be pleased to know!), and there are many original as well as restored features.
