Prospects & General Comments:
My name is Bob Glynn I own and run the North wales fly fishing school, and fish most days or guide or coach guests.

The Rivers Mawddach and Winion (pronounced onion)

The Mawddach has had poor water apart from one horrendous flood, and last week went up a few inches and down as quick. I have heard reports of the odd good seartout caught in the Mawddach Ken Hopkins had a 10Lb fish on worm last month, and lost a salmon (on a shrimp) must have been a salmon? and about 9 other catches spread out no records of methods best fish at 8.5lb by a local.

Winion : fishe dthis a few timsw this season, best seatrout at 14.5lb to a local angler and many other fish taken all generally 2-5lb night fishing with fly the river has a good head of seatrout in and larger fish waiting to move up from the Reed pool on Saturday last I saw 3 salmon being caught from the reed pool to 8lb, my guest I was coaching hooked a Salmon at the junction of the Mawddach and Winion but did the fatal strike?? 'you must never strike a salmon on a fly' he had the fever you must not get the fever: But the reed pool had a lot of Salmon and Seatrout showing, caught, on worm, shrimp spinner, and had we landed our fish all four methods.

Please note while starting the evening session it was dissapointing to see 2 local anglers fly fishing in daylight, which is generally a waste of time and spoils the night fishing on that pool for a for a hours, please be aware of the river you fish and what species as it is corteous to leave the last hour for the pool to setle down for the seatrout fisher.

Upper winion has many fish in all the pools but due to gully type sections best with a worm, or a teeny fast sink line works well for me and we took 4 fish to 3lb on this method todate, so go armed with correct lines.
