Bamboo Ratchet Brake Reels (Tackle)
aaabam.jpg Reel Crazy I am an individual artist / craftsman with a keen interest in anglings rich and varied history I have a web site www.reelcrazy.net that explains me and my work.I have created a reel reflecting a time around 1750/1770 when reel development was in it's infancy, before the invention of machine screws and high tensile springs, I have attached a brief explanation.Ok I hear you ask, who wants to fish with a reel from centuries ago? Well not the sort of guy who just pulls his gear from the garage throws it in the car then when his days fishing is done throws it back in again.I don't know about you but I feel with all the technology, gizmo's, and gadgets crammed into gear today the simple pleasure, the art if you like in fishing is smothered, my reel gives you a chance to use your skills all right maybe not on every trip but when you feel like experiencing the true craft of angling.I think discerning anglers enjoy something different look at the roach pole that has made a come back and that after all had the most basic of roots a stick with a piece of string tied to the end!!01949 860025Photo of the Bamboo Ratchet Brake ReelsStephen Sheppard

As a habitual sucker in colleting anything and everything related to angling and angling memorabilia, I have and continually to buy old books, rods, reels, spinners and just about anything I can get my hands on, from car boot sales to auctions and of course the dreaded temptation of E-Bay and quite often make howling mistakes thinking I had bought a gem, worth a fortune more than the sale price, to find that it is over priced and angling junk, consigned to the garage, rather than pride and place on my ever filling shelves in my angling study.
Then I came across Reel Crazy and the amazing craftsmanship of Stephen Sheppard and what gems he has crafted in re-creating some amazing forgotten reels, wooden and brass reels form a by-gone halcyon era in our illustrious angling history.
Not only are these reels a work of art, identically re-created using original materials, not only can you fish with these reels, but will be a talking point in any anglers collection and I have no doubt will increase in value.
I even decided to try my luck fishing with one, my first outing managed to catch a very lively 17lb Mirror Carp on floating crust and it performed faultlessly, no different from my all singling and dancing titanium new breed centre pin reel, if you are going to buy just one item this year, please go for one of theses wonderful reels, you won’t be disappointed and highly recommended by Angling News.
