Gosforth Anglers
Welcome To Gosforth Anglers, on the River Irt, One of the longest running, well established and highly respected Angling Clubs in the Lake District. We have facilitated and hosted quality, unique Salmon and Seatrout fishing to locals, associates and visitors, for many a long decade. Our beat-hosted Andy Nicholson for filming his now famous Video, The Occasional Salmon and many of the sequences and fish caught, were on Gosforth Anglers Water, Andy Nicholson, is and has been a Gosforth Angling member for over 35 years and has fished the river Irt continually for 57 years.

The River Irt, flows from Wastwater and is one of the cleanest, purest and deepest lakes in Europe, providing a constant supply of fresh sparkling water. The beat starts at Forest Bridge at Nether Wasdale and runs down to the weir, just above Santon Bridge. We have 7.5 miles of fishing, mainly both banks and is well recognised as the prime beat with the best well-known pools on the entire river. Famous pools, such as Crag House, Manhole, Hollins, Wood Pool, the Larches and Tottridge, to mention a few, are spread along the beat.

There is a wonderful combination of Pools, runs, glides and riffles, ideal for fly, worm, spin and shrimp fishing and below Crag House Bridge; there is a magnificent stretch of fly water, starting at the Larches and running right down to the weir, this is not the only fly water on the beat, other good fly water is dotted along the entire length of the beat. The surrounding countryside, scenery and views are exquisite; the backdrop to our beat is the stunning majestic mountain Scafell and the Screes, there can be no more picturesque fishing beat in the entire land.

The season kicks of on April the 1st where a few Seatrout and the odd Salmon are to be found in the system, the Months of May, June and July are when the main runs of Seatrout arrive, however the smaller Seatrout and some double figure ones continue to run through to the end of the season, on the 31st of October. The Salmon will start to run in May and build towards the end of the season, best months, being August and September, when the grilse normally arrive.

For visiting anglers there is a wealth of varying accommodation available in the local area, from good quality hotels, guesthouses, B&B,s, self-catering cottages/flats along with several caravan and camping sites.
